Drain Line Repair & Replacement in Paramount, CA

Under-Slab & Crawlspace Drain Lines | Camera-Verified First | Permitted Work | CSLB #1051553 | Se Habla Español

Some drains are not clogged. They are broken, have sagged, or rusted closed from the inside, and the clog everybody keeps clearing is a symptom of a pipe that can no longer carry water properly. That is a different job from drain cleaning, and it starts with looking rather than cabling.

Ser Plumbing repairs and replaces the drain lines inside and under the house: kitchen and laundry waste arms, bathroom branch lines, under-slab runs, and the vent piping that makes it all work. We camera the line first, show you what we see, and only then talk about opening anything.

If the answer turns out to be a cleaning after all, we will say so and clean it. Nobody here gets paid more for finding a bigger problem.

The problem

Why People Call

A handful of symptoms cover almost every call. Each one points somewhere different, and the difference is usually real money.

The same drain clogs on a schedule

A line that backs up every few months, however many times it gets cleared, is telling you about the pipe rather than about what went down it. Usually that means a sag holding standing water, or a corroded arm with nothing smooth left inside.

One fixture is slow, and nothing else is

When the rest of the house drains fine, the problem is on that fixture's branch rather than in the main line. That narrows the search enormously, and it is why we ask which drains are affected before we come out. → /sewer-service

There is a damp spot, a smell, or a sound under the floor

A broken drain under a slab does not always announce itself with water. Sometimes it is an odor that comes and goes, a warm patch, or the sound of water where no pipe should be running.

You are remodeling, and the old drain will not work where the new fixture goes

Moving a sink or adding a laundry means the drain, the slope, and the vent all have to move with it. That is the part that fails inspection when somebody does it without a permit. → /adu-plumbing

What Is Under These Houses

Most of the housing around here went up in the two decades after the war, and the tracts on either side of Paramount followed the same construction pattern. Under a house of that vintage you generally find one of three things: hub-and-spigot cast iron carrying the main runs, galvanized steel branch arms serving the kitchen and lavatory, or ABS where somebody has already been in and replaced a section.

The galvanized branch arms are the ones that surprise people. They rust closed from the inside while looking perfectly sound from the outside, and because they thread into a cast iron hub rather than glue into it, the tie-in is where the work lives: a seized arm often cannot be backed out without damaging the hub, so the cut has to go further than the visible damage. Knowing which of the three you are looking at, before any concrete gets cut, is most of what separates a controlled repair from an expensive afternoon of discovery.

What's covered

What's Covered

01

Branch and waste-arm replacement

Kitchen, laundry, lavatory, tub, and shower drain arms replaced with the correct material and fall. Where an arm ties into old cast iron, we make that transition properly rather than with a fitting that will leak in five years.

02

Under-slab drain line repair and replacement

Locate and mark, cut and remove concrete cleanly, replace the run, re-grade it, test it, backfill and compact, and re-pour. We tell you up front what the floor will look like afterward and what is and is not part of our scope.

03

Bellies, back-pitch, and slope correction

A sag in a drain holds water, water drops solids, and the line clogs on a cycle; no cleaning will break it. Correcting the fall is the only fix, and a liner will not do it because a liner reproduces whatever shape it is inflated into.

04

Vent piping repair and correction

Every trap needs a vent, and re-routed islands, added laundry hookups, and previous handyman work are where we find that rule quietly ignored. Fixing it is often the reason a drain that "was always slow" stops being slow.

How a Drain Line Job Works

01

We ask which fixtures are affected and what has already been done to the line. A drain that has been cleared four times is a different conversation from one that just started backing up.

02

Camera first. You watch the screen alongside us, and the recording goes home with you whether or not we do the repair.

03

If a cleaning solves it, we clean it, and you are done. → /drain-cleaning-services

04

If the pipe is the problem, we locate and mark the run from above and establish depth before quoting.

05

Scope, access plan, permit path where one applies, and a written price, before a saw touches the floor.

06

Repair day: area protected, concrete cut squarely or crawlspace access opened, pipe replaced and graded, tested, backfilled and compacted, concrete restored.

07

Final camera run over the finished line, plus a written summary of what was replaced.

Why Ser Plumbing

Why Ser Plumbing for Drain Line Work

01

We camera before we quote

Nobody should price concrete work off a hunch. The camera establishes what is wrong, where, and how deep, and those three answers are the whole quote. You are looking at the same screen we are.

02

We tell you when it is still just a clog

Plenty of these calls end with a cleaning and a bill for a cleaning. A clog that keeps returning deserves a look inside, and sometimes the look says the pipe is fine. That is a good outcome, not a lost sale.

03

Slope gets measured, not guessed

The code publishes a quarter-inch fall per foot for the smaller drain sizes. A re-graded line that meets it holds; one that does not will clog again next winter no matter how new the pipe is.

04

Permitted work stays permitted

Drainage and vent modifications require a permit and inspection where the city requires them. We tell you what applies before we start, and we do not offer to skip it.

Why the Same Drain Clogs Every Few Months

A cable machine opens a path. That is its job, and it does it well, and where a single obstruction was the whole story, that is the end of it. But when the pipe itself has a sag, the cable rides straight through the standing water in the low spot without ever touching the water. Everything drains beautifully for a while, solids settle back into the same dip, and a few months later the same fixture backs up. The homeowner concludes the drain is cursed. The drain is level, or worse than level, in one particular stretch.

A camera with a locator settles it in fifteen minutes, and it settles it on screen rather than by argument: water sitting in a line that should be empty, and the exact spot it sits. The same pass distinguishes a sag from a corroded galvanized arm with a bore the size of a pencil, from a joint that has separated, from roots that have found a branch. Four findings, four repairs, four prices, and guessing between them is how people pay for concrete work that fixed the wrong twelve feet.

FAQ

Drain Line FAQs

Straight answers to the questions we hear on the phone every week.

Ser Plumbing plumber documenting findings on a Southeast LA County call Camera firstWe grade the line before we quote
How do I know if it is a clog or a broken pipe?
You do not, from the outside, and neither does anyone else without a camera. What points toward the pipe is a clog that returns on a schedule, one fixture that is always the culprit, or a house old enough to still carry its original branch arms.
Do you have to break the concrete floor?
Not always. Where the run is accessible from a crawlspace, we work from there, and where a line runs near an exterior wall, it can sometimes be tunneled from outside, which costs more to excavate and leaves your floor alone. Where a slab cut is the answer, we cut the smallest opening the job allows and mark its location before we start.
Can you line a drain line instead of replacing it?
Sometimes, where the pipe has kept sound wall, shape, and fall. What lining cannot do is correct a sag or change slope, because the liner takes the shape of whatever it is inflated inside, and a line that has lost wall has nothing to bond to. Whether a specific line qualifies is a separate matter. → /cast-iron-pipe-lining
How is this different from sewer line work?
The sewer line is the main run from the house out to the connection in the street. This page is about the pipes between your fixtures and the main line, which fail and are repaired differently. → /sewer-service
Does this need a permit?
Drainage and vent work goes through permit and inspection where the city requires it, and you will hear what applies to your address before anything starts.
Will my homeowners insurance cover it?
It comes down to your policy and to what caused the failure, and a guess from us would not help. What we provide is documentation of the condition, photographed and filmed, so the decision is made on evidence.
Can you add a cleanout while you are in there?
Yes, and it pays to ask. Cutting one into an already open line costs very little compared to adding it later, and it makes every future service call on that line quicker and cheaper. → /sewer-cleanout-installation
