How Cast Iron Announces Itself
What We do with Cast Iron Here
Pricing & Response
How much of the sound wall the footage shows determines whether lining belongs on the estimate at all.
Estimates are free for replacement projects; the camera assessment is diagnostic work and is charged for. Labor discounts: military and first responders 10% up to $100, seniors 65+ and teachers 5% up to $50, first-time customers 10% on qualifying repairs, one per job. Referral credits run $25, $50 or $100 by job size, with a sewer replacement in the top band.
How a Cast Iron Decision Gets Made
You tell us what has been happening and what anyone else has already said about the pipe.
Anything too blocked for a camera gets cabled first.
The run is filmed end to end with the measurements spoken onto the recording.
You watch it, and each defect is explained where it appears rather than summarized afterward.
Wall condition is assessed section by section, because that is what decides between descaling, lining and replacement.
Before a trench is scoped, we ask what your title report says and what the city has on record for the parcel.
All the options are priced on the estimate, including the one where nothing is replaced this year.
If replacement goes ahead, we pull the permit, book the inspection and hand you the signed record at the end.

Long Beach Cast Iron FAQS
Straight answers for Long Beach homeowners. Anything not covered here, just ask.
Ask us directly ↗Somebody told me all cast iron of a certain age must be replaced. True?
Ask to be shown the wall on video, and ask for one specific thing off it: a still frame at the worst point in the run with the distance showing on it. That single image is what a second opinion is based on, and anybody who cannot produce one has not filmed the run.
What is the difference between descaling and replacing?
Descaling removes the buildup from the inside of a pipe that still has wall; replacement puts in a new pipe. What to settle before either is booked is the after. Ask to have the run filmed again when the work is done, and ask what the second recording is expected to show. Descaling that produces no visible change to the bore has told you something about the pipe.
Should I ask about oil wells before I dig?
Yes, and both checks can be started today. The title report you were given when you bought the property lists what is recorded against the land, and a Declaration of Covenant would appear in that list under its own name. The city's records are the other half. Whether any of it reaches your job is the city's call.
Is lining as good as replacing?
It depends entirely on what is being lined, since a liner forms against the host pipe and a run that has lost structural wall cannot host one. There is a second question worth putting to anyone quoting a liner: who performs it? Ours goes to qualified partner specialists, and you are entitled to the name and the license number of whoever will be working at your address before you sign anything.
Can I do part of it now and the rest later?
Often, and it is a reasonable way to phase the work. Make the estimate name the point where the two phases join, and push for that point to be somewhere reachable, a fitting or an access rather than the middle of a run under the drive. A joint chosen for the first dig's convenience is ground the second dig has to open again.
